Dust routinely blows all the way across the Atlantic Ocean from the Sahara Desert, dropping throughout the Caribbean, Central America and as far north as Florida; it carries orchid seeds - Oeceoclades maculata, Polystachya concreta, and a few relatives of the African genus Angraecum are all found in Florida and the West Indies.

Make friends through orchids, or just hang around and gaze upon them at orchid meetings in your area:

East east bay: Diablo View Orchid Society

San Francsico Orchid Society

Oakland: Orchid Society of California

Easter than we: Sacramento Orchid Society

Nationwide, don't forget to join the American Orchid Society
